Georgia Retreat For Men

We all need to take time out, to be quiet and to think about our life and our relationship with Good. Retreats are not a luxury to be savored by a pious few; they are a necessity for the soul of all of us.

Magnalia Foundation Retreats at Carmel Retreat Center are traditional, silent retreats, conducted by priests of the Prelature of Opus Dei for men. The Carmel Retreat Center is located 45 miles northeast of Atlanta off Interstate 85. It is nestled in a beautiful secluded area of north Georgia and is ideal for prayer, reflection and relaxation. The Center includes a large chapel, dining room, living rooms, conference room, private reconciliation room, and 26 bedrooms.

Each day of the retreat includes Holy Mass, four or five preached meditations on living one’s faith in daily life given by the priest, Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Rosary and the Way of the Cross. The priest conducting the retreat is available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There is also the opportunity for personal consultation with a priest or lay person on the staff.

Men’s Evenings of Recollection

An Evening of Recollection is similar to a two hour silent retreat. Its purpose is to help men sanctify their ordinary life in and through their work, family, and recreational activities.

A meditation by a priest from the Prelature of Opus Dei and a talk by a layman on living the Christian virtues are combined with time for spiritual reading, and an examination of conscience in front of the Blessed Sacrament. There is also the opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession. The evening closes with an optional time for fellowship, light snacks, and refreshments.

The evenings of recollection are normally held on the third Friday of every month at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell, GA. Recollection starts at 7.15 pm but a half an hour before the priest is available for confessions.
